| New Transportation Worker Identification Card Adds Extra Layer Of Security To Three U.S. Ports |
| SAN PEDRO, Calif. - The Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) was successfully implemented today in the ports of Los Angeles, Long Beach, and Hueneme thanks to the joint efforts of the U.S. Coast Guard, Customs and Border Protection, Transportation Security Administration, local and state law enforcement, and the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach.
Two years worth of planning and several thousand hours of outreach and training resulted in the multi-agency operation of ensuring a smooth transition for maritime transportation workers. The operation included the efforts of 100 plus personnel deployed on the ground and in the air to ensure the continuity of trade during TWIC implementation. Personnel from various agencies worked around the clock on facility spot checks as well as enhanced traffic management and control.
